  This article discusses bioeconomic analysis and different management strategies in fisheries. It reviews recent developments, which show the need to expand the analysis to multispecies fisheries and management. Significant gains can be made if the interdependencies between species and/or jointness in inputs for many fisheries are by: Fisheries management plans. The intertemporal flow of costs and benefits of alternative management strategies should be sustained by a robust analysis of the fishery as a whole. For this purpose, static and dynamic bioeconomic models constitute an important aid to decision-making aiming at a sustainable management of fish stocks.

Bioeconomics is closely related to the early development of theories in fisheries economics, initially in the mids by Canadian economists Scott Gordon (in ) and Anthony Scott (). Their ideas used recent achievements in biological fisheries modelling, primarily the works by Schaefer in Aims and Scope The Journal of Bioeconomics is devoted to creative interdisciplinary dialogues between biologists and economists.
